I grew up outside of Denver, Colorado, where my family still lives. I went to college and grad school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Go Blue! After getting my Masters in Public Health in molecular epidemiology, I moved to Atlanta and spent 5 years working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) working mostly in anthrax vaccine research and HIV surveillance but was also able to spend some time in Dadaab, Kenya, working in a refugee camp with CDC-Kenya. While I loved working in public health, I wanted to be more involved in the clinical aspects of health and so decided to go to medical school at Rush University in Chicago, where I graduated with honors. After medical school I had the great fortune of coming to Seattle to complete my Internal Medicine residency at the University of Washington. That was when I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. However, I left Seattle to complete my Gastroenterology fellowship back in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan.
After finishing training, I moved closer to my family and was on faculty at the University of Colorado for a few years, where I had the unique and special opportunity to work alongside my dad, who is also a GI doctor, in his final year of practice before retiring. However, the PNW was beckoning me back and I moved first to Bend, Oregon, and then finally to Bellingham where I joined Northwest Gastroenterology in June 2022.
I love what I do because GI gives me the opportunity to develop close and long-lasting relationships with patients, offers a broad array of pathology to treat, and is a great mixture of clinic, procedures, and inpatient care. Also, I really love that I can prevent colon cancer through routine screening colonoscopies.
In my free time I love spending time outdoors with my dog, traveling, working out on my Peloton, hiking, watching Michigan football, and spending quality time with my four nieces and nephews.
